When our founder first set out 10 years ago to create the most secure, durable dog crate on the market, he had one goal; to protect our dogs. So, how exactly did we get here? Well, it all started with cases. More specifically; heavy-duty, aluminum cases. In 2002, Michael Bailey- who would later go on to found Impact Dog Crates, took on a new venture. After starting a successful heater company at the age of 23 in his garage, he had made a name for himself in the manufacturing industry. His newest venture: Impact Case & Container (ICC). Headquartered out of beautiful Northern Idaho, ICC quickly became the industry leader for the highest quality aluminum containers designed to hold military equipment, firearms, and satellite equipment. With top-of-the-line technology and product engineering behind every product, these cases were trusted to provide the maximum protection by football programs, the military, and private sector companies nationwide.
Transforming the Pet Industry
10 years later, in 2012, Michael Bailey had another idea. Having completely transformed the aluminum protection industry, he knew he wanted to continue to create more groundbreaking products far superior to those already being offered on the market. Thus, he then turned his attention to the pet industry. Recognizing the lack of safe and secure dog crates in the pet industry, Michael- joined by a talented engineering team, set out to use the same space-grade aluminum and smart technology behind the containers to create heavy-duty dog crates.
At the time, dog owners looking for crates to protect their precious canines had very few options. While there have always been an abundance of wire dog crates available online and in pet stores, these crates offer little-to-no protection for dogs. With a poor build quality, flimsy wire crates were more likely to last only a few months before falling apart. Not only that, but the design of many of these dog crates posed a massive safety risk to pups. Think about it; with how fragile wire crates are, it would not take a lot of force for a dog to damage or break out of a wire crate. Unfortunately, in doing so, this would likely result in a sharp metal piece of the crate being exposed, which can cause serious injuries to dogs. As a lifelong dog owner and lover, Impact Dog Crates founder, Michael Bailey, was determined to change the dog crate industry by offering crates that actually put the safety of your pet first. In 2012, Impact Dog Crates was founded.
Originally called KennectPet, the Impact Dog Crates team quickly got to work on designing the safest and strongest aluminum crates available. Seeing the dissatisfaction and frustration that many dog owners had with the existing dog crates on the market, our team knew we wanted to be different. Witnessing many flimsy wire or plastic dog crates easily break or get destroyed after just a few uses, Michael took a different approach to the construction of our crates. Having utilized space-grade, heavy-duty aluminum to provide the maximum protection for military applications with ICC, he decided to utilize the same materials and technology to build the toughest dog crates. Today, when dog owners choose Impact Dog Crates to safeguard their four-legged friends, they have 100% confidence that they are providing the highest quality protection for their pups. Why is that? In the early days of our business, our team of product engineers were hard at work constructing a dog crate like no other. Through this all, our team had one goal in mind; to create a dog crate that puts pet safety and security first. Our team quickly got to work, and soon enough our first crate prototypes were ready. After many product redesigns and improvements, eventually our prototypes turned into our first ever aluminum dog crates.
Our Manufacturing Process
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Michael Bailey was always proud of his Idaho roots. Thus, Hayden, Idaho became the birthplace of Impact Dog Crates in 2012. With his commitment to making quality products, he decided that the best way to ensure our dog crates were up to his quality standards was by handling every part of our manufacturing and production processes in-house. Impact Dog Crates is incredibly proud to be an American-made company, and the materials going into our products are sourced from small businesses across the country. Every step of our manufacturing process, from our meticulous welding to our powder coating, is handled at our Northern Idaho facility.
It is at our headquarters in Hayden, Idaho, that the first Impact Dog Crates models were introduced. Constructed from 100% space-grade, heavy-duty aluminum, our crates quickly became the crate-of-choice for pet protection. While wire crates are flimsy and lack durability, our crates are built from the highest quality aluminum and engineered to last a lifetime. With the smart design and superior build quality behind every model, some of our largest early customers were dog trainers, breeders, and police departments. To this day, we are proud to remain the preferred crate brand among canine professionals worldwide.
As our company has grown and expanded in the worldwide pet market, our products have evolved as well. Over the years, we’ve worked continuously to always produce the safest and highest quality dog crates. Thus, we’ve taken every opportunity to make our crates even safer for dogs, which brings us to our current three dog crate models designed to protect dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments.

Every last detail, down to even the shape of our ventilation holes, was meticulously designed with your dog’s safety in mind.
Our Stationary Dog Crate is the perfect sturdy crate for any pup, offering comfort, security, and protection during travel (as it is IATA compliant for flying). Knowing many dog owners enjoy bringing their pups with them on their exciting adventures, we designed our Collapsible Dog Crate to be the must-have crate for every dog. With its sleek folding design, this crate can be easily set up or collapsed in less than a minute. Plus, when it’s not in use, storing it is no problem- as it folds down to just 8 inches tall.
Unfortunately, many dogs suffer from separation anxiety, which can seriously impact their day-to-day lives. This is why we built our High Anxiety Dog Crate, a first-of-its-kind dog crate designed specifically for anxious or destructive dogs. With reinforced aluminum and a steel paddle latch, this heavy-duty crate ensures that your pup and home are safe from harm.
Taking Dog Protection Worldwide
Since we opened our doors 10 years ago, Impact Dog Crates has remained steadfast in our mission to make sure every dog receives the safety and security they deserve. This is why one of our biggest goals as a company was to expand our business digitally and globally, ensuring that more pups are being protected while at-home or on-the-go. Thus, this led to our expansion into the e-commerce industry. Today, Impact Dog Crates operates as a fully online, direct-to-consumer business based out of our Northern Idaho facility. It is at our nearly 60,000 square foot headquarters that we engineer new products, manufacture our crates, and run our website. Not only do we handle all of our manufacturing in-house, but we also manage our shipping and distribution internally as well, ensuring that we have full control over the quality of our products from start to finish. With our user-friendly website, dog owners worldwide can put their pet’s safety first with just the click of a button.
In 2021, Michael Bailey stepped down as CEO and handed the reins to his son, Hunter Bailey, who joined the Impact team in 2014. With his knack for marketing and product innovation, under Hunter’s leadership, Impact Dog Crates became a global leader in pet protection. Throughout all of this, we have remained true to our Northern Idaho roots and continue to be family owned and operated to this day.
