The Inspiring Mission Behind Warrior Canine Connection
Warrior Canine Connection is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing life-changing support for veterans and wounded warriors. Through utilizing Mission-Based Trauma Recovery, the organisation empowers Veterans to heal and rediscover purpose within their communities and everyday lives.
For many Veterans, the transition from deployment back to civilian life can feel overwhelming and isolating. This can be even more difficult for those suffering from post-traumatic stress, physical injuries, or more invisible wounds. Harnessing the therapeutic power of the human-animal connection, service dogs are commonly utilized to help Veterans navigate emotional and physical challenges. Service dogs can be trained to perform a variety of tasks, including providing emotional regulation, support during moments of distress, and mobility assistance. Additionally, dogs offer unconditional love and companionship that can be deeply comforting for Veterans facing post-deployment challenges.
What sets Warrior Canine Connection apart from other non-profit organisations is its innovative approach to connecting Veterans with service dogs. Instead of just pairing up Veterans and service dogs, warriors are invited to actively participate in the training and development of future service dogs.
This hands-on approach provides responsibility and a renewed sense of purpose for recovering Warriors. Through this program, Warrior Trainers are not just receiving the therapeutic benefits of working alongside dogs: they’re also directly contributing to the well-being of their fellow Veterans who will be relying on these service dogs for support.
Impact Dog Crates and Warrior Canine Connection
With over 100 dogs currently in their program, Warrior Canine Connection continues to further its mission to better the lives of Veterans, families, and communities across the country. As the organisation’s work has expanded nationwide, the demand for safe transportation has grown. Service dogs in training are frequently transported long distances between training classes, events, and facilities in various regions. As the dogs are prepared for their future roles, it is crucial that their safety and well-being are prioritized throughout these long journeys.
Impact Dog Crates is honored to support Warrior Canine Connection’s mission by providing heavy-duty dog crates designed to keep the future service dogs safe, comfortable, and secure during transport. As the dogs travel in transit vans between classes, training outings, facilities, and events, these crates play a vital role in ensuring their safety every step of the way.
This peace of mind in knowing the dogs are securely contained allows Warrior Canine Connection to fully focus on supporting Veterans and training highly skilled service dogs.
See Warrior Canine Connection in Action
In June 2024, Warrior Canine Connection had the opportunity to attend the long-standing DoD's Warrior Games, an annual adaptive-sports competition that highlights the exceptional physical and mental toughness of military service members from all branches who are wounded, ill, and injured. Thanks to Impact Dog Crates’ support, WCC trainers were able to safely and comfortably transport five dogs from its headquarters in Boyds, Maryland to Orlando, Florida for the Warrior Games- a 1,768-mile round trip.
WCC utilized a temperature-controlled Sprinter van with a separate cabin, equipped with Impact Dog Crates. Throughout the week, WCC's service dogs and service dogs in training provided stress relief and morale support to service members and their families. As part of the innovative Healing Hut, WCC pups were able to prescribe snuggles and smooches to the athletes to reduce pre-game jitters.
Jen Blessing, WCC's Assistant Director of Service Dog Training, was one of the trainers who drove with the dogs down to Florida and spent the week at the Warrior Games with them. "The Impact Dog Crates did an amazing job not just transporting the dogs safely, but providing them comfort through the road trip from Maryland to Florida and then back to Maryland."
Impact Dog Crates is incredibly grateful to support Warrior Canine Connection and their mission to help Veterans and their families. It is truly inspiring to witness how their work makes such a meaningful difference in the lives of both dogs and the veterans they support.
